Marriage is the joining of a couple in the eyes of God and in the eyes of the State. When two people are joined into marriage they become on in flesh and one spirit. Sexual intercourse within marriage is for this reason good and of great blessing both to the couple, to the family and to the church. However, outside of marriage it creates a conflict of body and soul. This conflict may not at first be evident but later it can result it real soul damage occurring between the two people involved. God tells us that we should control out bodies and our lusting, â€Å"It is Gods will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in a passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God†1. By performing premarital sex we are abusing our bodies and our souls. The pain that premarital sex puts on us is very evident. Physically premarital sex can lead to many things, such as pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, and other things that accompany premarital sex. Mentally premarital sex also hurts. Our bond with God is ruined, we lose contact with God and we are no longer part of the Church. Premarital sex goes against God’s law so our relationship with God is destroyed. Penance can heal our relationship with God, but the emotional ties that go along with premarital sex can hurt a person for life. Many couples that have premarital sex often do not stay together in marriage. Many people have strong emotional hardships that they go through after having premarital sex. Premarital sex doesn’t just lead to sin; it leads to a separation of God and your family and friends. Sex is the sacred sigh of the covenant with God, when a couple has sex they are sealing the covenant with God. Breaking this sign of the covenant is one of the most harmful sins that we as a people can expose ourselves to. In order for us to enter into heaven God says But among you there must not even be a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impuritybecause these are improper for Gods holy people.1 Breaking the sign of the covenant with God is breaking God’s law and going against everything God wants for us. God doesn’t ask much from us considering all that he has given us, he asks us only to follow his laws, in Jesus said, If you love me, you will obey what I command.1 Premarital sex goes against God’s command and ruins our relationship with him. Since the time of Christ, Christians have thought premarital sex to be a sin. Ancient Christians use to believe that â€Å"marriage was a second rate choice but if one lacked self control, he had to take such a choice†2 The ancient Christians were saying that if someone couldn’t control themselves sexually without abstaining from sex until marriage then they were forced into marriage. Marriage was not looked upon as a good thing; so many Christians abstained from premarital sex in order not to marry. Early Christians also thought, â€Å"sex was something unclean, something vile, to be avoided.†2 This notion helped early Christians to abstain from premarital sex. The Churchmen of this time were very against premarital sex. The thought â€Å"an early marriage were often looked upon as a sign of an evil, uncontrollable temperance†2 So premarital sex was looked at as evil, a pregnancy resulting from premarital sex forced couples to enter into marriage. As Chri stianity developed to present times, many beliefs have stayed the same. Today Christians still believe that premarital sex is a sin, but many who are not devout Christians are having premarital sex. People who do not have a religion and are atheist often feel that there is nothing wrong with premarital sex, since it is not a commandment for them they feel that there is no sin that accompanies premarital sex. Premarital sex is becoming more accepted in our society. Many schools hand out condoms to students to keep them protected from the diseases that accompany premarital sex. Many counseling centers have been set up to help unmarried mothers. Although many people still think that premarital sex is a sin, it is more widely accepted as being ok. Teens everywhere are educated on sex, in schools across the country. â€Å"Religiosity among young American women declined between 1971 and 1976.†3 Showing that due to a decrease in religion, premarital sex statistics have been on the rise. However, children who are raised from good families are often the on es who abstain from premarital sex. â€Å"The decline of religiosity, while evident at either the low or high end of the family stability scale was least among young women from â€Å"ideal† families.†3 Families who are considered ideal often have children who are more involved in their religion. Many families that are not structured correctly have problems with their children having premarital sex. Premarital sex often leads to many family problems that the Catholic Church must get involved in. The Church often helps the families that are created from premarital sex. â€Å"Early childbearing is disadvantageous to the teenager, parents, and involves high social and economic costs for individuals in society.†4 Many families have to put up unwanted children for adoption because of money issues. Those who do not put their children up for adoption often have a separation between the mother and father of the child. The government supports children that are born from premarital sex with programs such as WICK and Welfare. These government agencies provide basic needs for the children until a certain age when nutrients and vitamins are not as important. With programs such as these in effects, young teens feel that it is more acceptable to have premarital sex because they know that the government will support the child. They sometimes unwisely expose themselves to the dangers of long courtships, waiting, for example, to complete graduate school. Tragically, our society is sending young people the message that they cannot live chastely. But we Christians have much higher esteem, and expectation, for youth. We know that Gods strength is stronger than our human weakness. We include God in our romance, and ask God to bless our marriage. We ask God to help us through the hard times, when we are tempted by lust, we pray to him and ask him to give us the strength necessary to follow his law. God can’t always help us though, sometimes we have to pull through and stop ourselves, but the best way to avoid the lusting of premarital sex is to avoid any chance of premarital sex itself. Knowing when to stop and how far to go is the first step in avoiding premarital sex, sometimes it might be hard to stop but if you love God then you will always find the strength to stop. Chastity is a gift of Gods grace and a firm desire to follow the Lords way of happiness. To remain chaste we must avoid those books, photos, movies, conversations and fantasies that feed lust. Our society promotes sex, it is all around us, and we must learn to block those things out that promote premarital sex or adultery. We must pray that Gods strength will carry us in our weakness. If and when we should fall, we continue to trust in Gods love and mercy. We refuse to get discouraged or give up. We ask God for forgiveness, and for help in forgiving ourselves. We let go of the past, so that God can pick us up and set us back on the right path. Even if we fall to the temptation of lust, God will always be there for us. If we ask God for his forgiveness, he will always allow us back with him. God will never turn us down if we ask for forgiveness. Even though premarital sex goes against everything the Catholic Church teaches, and it goes against everything God has ever wanted us to do, God will still take us back and make us his children if we just ask for his forgiveness. Penance was created in order for people to talk to God and ask his forgiveness through a priest. The priest absolves us from our sins and we can once again regain our relationship with God. As a teenager I see other teens all the time going against God’s law and performing premarital sex. I feel that premarital sex is wrong, I believe in God and I follow the Roman Catholic Religion. I feel that people should wait until marriage until they perform the act of sex. Premarital sex is wrong, you are joining into a covenant with God that you are not ready for. Marriage is one of the most sacred sacraments that one can take part in. I believe that couples should wait until after the sacrament of marriage has been performed until they fulfill the sacrament with the sign of sexual intercourse. Through my research I have learned that from the earliest days of Christianity, Christians have believed that premarital sex is wrong. There is no form of premarital sex that is right, no matter how much in love or your plans for your future together with your partner, premarital sex is still wrong. But for now the focus will be on seven habits of time management. These seven habits and skills are; punctuality, multitasking, sleep, learning to say "NO", prioritizing, creating schedules, and efficiency. Lastly I will evaluate whether I utilize these seven habits. Time Management Habits and Skills Punctuality is a very important skill to master. Whether you're the one waiting for the next shift coming on or the person coming in, punctuality or lack thereof can make or break relationships between co-workers. Nobody likes to be the one left waiting. People put their time in at work and expect to go home when their shift is over. When people are late to things consistently, not only are they wasting time set aside for a specific task, they are also wasting the time of the other person who is waiting to be relieved. An example of this would be a nurse being late to work, causing a co-worker to stay past their shift until relief shows up. Things happen to make people late. Life happens, but it's not professional and is in fact, irresponsible on the part of the habitual offender. Creating a schedule can be a very effective time management tool. When a person creates a schedule, they need to make it a priority and stick to it. It's helpful to check things off once tasks are completed . It can be a useful tool in helping to ensure that things are not forgotten. Scheduling too, can help a person to stay on task. With schedules come time constraints, limiting the amount of time to complete each task. Sleep/Multitasking/Efficiency Getting a good nights' sleep is definitely one, if not the most important thing a person can do for themselves. Sleep is like the foundation of a house. If it's lacking then the whole house is at risk. Drinking and eating too, are huge factors when it comes to staying healthy and being able to perform to your best ability. Sadly, all three of these very important factors tend to be the first things that people are willing to do without. Lack of sleep can lead to health issues such as high blood pressure or simply to the inability to maintain proper focus. Multitasking sounds like a good way to manage time, but in reality, trying to do too many things at once can actually be harmful and less effective in the long run. Simply put, focusing on one task at a time results in a better end product. Lack of sleep and or multitasking spreads the focus of a person too thin. When a person is able to keep the bulk of their focus on a single task, the more efficiently the task can be accomplished . Prioritizing/Saying "NO" There are times when a person has more tasks to complete than there is time in the day to complete them. Prioritizing any one task over another can be a difficult task in itself. One thing to remember when prioritizing is that no two tasks have the same amount of importance. Lastly saying the word "no" is also an important skill to learn. Nobody can do it all. Pleasing everyone or accomplishing everything in one day isn't realistic, period. Saying the word "no" to a boss, a teacher, an employee, a friend or family member is often difficult for people to do. This is where a well-adhered to schedule and good prioritization skills can help a person make those difficult decisions and be able to say "no." Judgement Now, it's time to put myself to the test and see if I have developed any of these seven habits. Starting with punctuality, I used to struggle with this, often arriving with just a few minutes to spare or just a few minutes late. For example, if I was supposed to be at work at 6, I would clock in at 6:04. This certainly isn't terrible but, the older I get the more I tend to show up twenty minutes or so early rather than four minutes late. When it comes to creating a schedule, I've learned a lot. Durkheims Theory: Summary, Critique and Analysis This review is The Rules of the Sociological Method by Durkheim. I will try to summarise the concepts of it and indicate some of objections of Durkheims position which I encountered in this article and will highlight as I go along. Durkheim states that the behaviour, phenomena and other societal dogma influence one to think, act, feel and react. Durkheim dedicated few fundamental elements such as the relationship between the individuals and society to the nature and social bond. He identified the two types of the societies into mechanical and organic societies. He distinguished them in terms of their shared beliefs, governing laws, level of individualism and social ills. According to Durkheims main theory of social fact existed even before we were born; and as a result a social fact is every way of acting, fixed or not, capable of exercising based on the individuals external constraint given by the society (p. 13). He added that social structures have a coercive power over the individual, which means that we are coerced into subsequent established rules of our society. According to Durkheim, social facts have main features such as: an external to the individual, coercive of the individual and not attached to any particular individual. The author argues that the basic norms of social facts as things to examine and understand. Durkheim is key thinker of social science and his theory and methods of was positivism (holism/whole), and he considers that social structures exist independently of the individual, and the individual agent does not play a huge role in the social fact. He emphasised that social facts exist outside the individuals, and the manifestation of the individuals is a social fact. He also suggested that society gives people a role to play based on their rationality and choices, therefore, society has made the individuals. Durkheim also suggested that belief existed since birth, and he gave his account on several inherent habits. It has been noticed that people are taught to be abided by certain obligation set by the society which termed as law and custom. The actions of individuals are totally connected with the education that one derives from his family or learnt through religion and customs of the society. Therefore, it is duty served by any individual by being a brother, mother, son or a h usband or as a citizen which are defined as the education and the obligation set by the society. This shows these concepts and expectations did not come from the individuals but from the social community. Although we might hold these normative community behaviours and share its values, we still constrained its existence. So, people have selected the social facts with conscious mind and their rationality. This means that people use their mind and brain to accept and follow the customs. However, in contrary to our modern day people are more rational and use their own autonomy and choice based on their own desires and will. Therefore, they rebel the norms and customs. In this sense, Durkheim sat the social level apart from psychology, and he insists that sociology and psychology are different. Psychology and Sociology goes hand in hand. Since people use their mind, brain to select their desires around them as well as their rationality. Durkheim referred understanding of the social fact belongs to sociology and its different from biology and psychology. In this sense, both discipline affects human growth, their rationality, choices and relationships. If he used consciousness/unconsciousne ss, and the effects of the emotions, how can he spate the sociology and psychology? This is the gap that needs to be considered. Hence, the thoughts and the ideas that are controlling ones behaviour is not developed by any individuals, rather they are enforced by some outside power and are penetrated on the character of the individual. In our modern day, a constant constraint has been developed to make people aware that they are not only dependent upon themselves neither on the societal norms and customs, but law and legislations sat. In the past century, the social norms could not be challenged or denied. People consider the norms are important and those failed to follow can either formally or informally can be sanctioned through the law and legislation, or by the communities as social control. They get excluded and shamed them. However, this is no longer valid. Conventions, on the other hand, are made by society to make people decide between the right and wrong, even if they are totally baseless. It has been analysed that if one tries to violate the rules set by the society, it acts against him and make him completely helpless to stand on his grounds. Furthermore, the society will ask him to anticipate his action if there is still time existed. In an alternative case, the society tries to nullify the action if it is considered to be reversible or make him pay a penalty if the action cannot be repaired. The restriction set by society causes an infringement in moral laws and ethics, special punishments are enforced to provide a check on the behaviour of the citizens which is seen a form of deterrence, p.2) However, there are some breach that goes against the ordinary convention of the society and treated less violently. Eventually, it has been examined that there are certain individuals who try to successfully break the rules forcing one to fight against them. Even if the forces of the society are overcome, they impose the power of virtue and moral constraints that will drive them to act and feel externally. They exercise control over the individuals and let them function the way they like. The actions represented by the society should not be confused with the organic and the physical phenomenon that does not exist in the human conscious mind. There are certain facts in the society which are termed to be really social as it is used without any clarity and accuracy in the society. The social facts generally cover the entire phenomenon and the occurrence within the society with the presence of little social interest of the people. Societies see each of the functions differently and are judged differently by all. His example on (p. 6), on constrain and convention, as he used an example of the outset of a childs life. In accordance, the term social has gathered a new meaning that is the factor on which individualism depends on. The social fact that existed in the well-defined society has emerged as the new form that contains the same objectivity controlling the behaviour of the individual. Society creates a profound impact on the emotions and feelings of the individual so once the community of the society breaks up, it fails to influence the feelings of the individuals and fails to enforce its power on them. The feelings and the experiences that people faced while being exposed to the harsh system of the society are completely dissimilar to that experience while being alone. In this respect the law of society draws every harmless individual to its wicked and cruel act when they are exposed to the crowd and let people get introduced to the religious, political and the artistic matters that are constantly surrounding them. Form the very beginning of growing stage of the child, he is taught the way to eat, sleep in regular hours and maintain cleanliness, which is later observed as a power or force to mend his ways to become a respectable individual of the society. This gradually gives rise to tendencies and habits that forms the inner and outer characteristics of the indi vidual. The pressure of the society and the environment to which one is subjected to, helps to shape ones personality and behaviour since childhood. Conclusion: Even though, the concept of the individual agent is strictly limited, still there are ways of thinking, acting, feeling which external power of coercion to the individual is. However, this is mental controlling to the individuals and enforcing them to abide by, regardless of their mental capacity and rationality. Therefore, one can say there is no way that one can detach or separate sociology from psychology. He also viewed an individual is tool and contributes little to the sociological knowledge. There are some premises are justified, however society evolved and transformed. Therefore, his argument are not fully compelling, when you look at other theories which makes a lot more sense. His clarification is functional but limited. The author failed to consider other possibility of the future change overtime. Therefore, there are many transformation took place now. Due to lack of integrations and technologies on his century, he failed to reflect on other societies which might happened to be different from France, such Europe and the global in general. Therefore, historical diversity is limited. The gap is not only the weakness of his argument it rather lacks the awareness of other societies outside France, which show the weaknesses of his premises, which not fully convincing. Reference: E.
